Congratulations to Councillor Matthew Bragg on his election as Mayor of Chippenham for 2026–2027, and to Councillor Nick Murry, who was elected Deputy Mayor at the meeting of Full Council last week.

We celebrated the Mayor’s Investiture on Wednesday 20 May at the Town Hall, with thanks given to last year’s Mayor, Councillor Kathryn Macdermid.

Asked by the outgoing Mayor, Councillor Eric Wakeman, Leader of the Council, presented his nomination for Councillor Matthew Bragg, and invited all Councillors to show their support with a show of hands.

Councillor Bragg read the Declaration of Acceptance of Office of Mayor and signed his signature in confirmation. The Mayor then invited Councillor Macdermid to make a speech on her year in office and make her thank you presentations.

The Mayor invited Councillor Eric Wakeman to propose a vote of thanks to the outgoing Mayor, and Councillor Macdermid received some gifts of thanks.

The Mayor then made his inaugural speech, before presenting the nomination in support of Councillor Nick Murry to be the Deputy Mayor, presenting him with the Chain of Office and inviting him to make a speech.

After the ceremony, all guests were invited to the Neeld for a light buffet and refreshments.

This year, the Mayor will be supporting Chippenham Civic Society, in partnership with the Friends of Chippenham Museum. For more details on the cause, please click on the following link – Chippenham Civic Society Public Art.
