Christmas in Chippenham is a beautiful celebration of the festive season with a programme full of fantastic entertainment for all the family.
The Town’s Christmas lights are switched on in a sparkly atmosphere with a day of live music, street performers, an artisan market, and festive activities in the town centre.

Saturday 29 November
Christmas Lights Switch-On
The Christmas Lights Switch On event took place on Saturday 29 November, with a family-friendly programme of live music and entertainment. There were performances from singer-songwriter Robbie Culley, Wiltshire Police Band, and cover band Mojo Dynamic.
The high street was filled with interactive entertainment including stiltwalkers, Alfie the Elf and festive roller skaters. We had two of the ever popular Snow Globes, alongside an artisan market. There were also children’s craft activities at Chippenham Museum and a craft market in the Yelde.

The Christmas Lights Switch On event took place on Saturday 30 November, with a family-friendly programme of live music and entertainment. There were performances from local youth music theatre CLOGettes, singer-songwriter Robbie Culley, Wiltshire Police Band, and Bristol-based party band Switch. The high street was filled with interactive entertainment including stiltwalkers, Bluey and Olaf, and the ever popular Snow Globe, alongside an artisan market. Our venues also held events, including circus skills and face painting in the Neeld, children’s craft activities at Chippenham Museum and a craft market in the Yelde.

A Festive Fringe programme had been planned to run alongside the Christmas Light Switch On from Thursday 28 November until Sunday 1 December. Unfortunately this event had to be cancelled due to flooding.

Christmas Lights Switch-On
The Christmas lights switch-on took place on Saturday 2 December with a fun-filled day of live music, entertainment and festive fun. The main stage hosted Santa Babes band, Chippenham Rock Choir and other live music by local bands. The Snow Globe returned, as did the artisan market in the High Street and vintage market in the Yelde, Clare’s Circus in the Neeld, with Chippenham Town Band at the Buttercross.
Christmas Island and Festive Fringe
On Island Park in Monkton Park produced in partnership with Melt Productions from Thursday 14 December – Sunday 17 December.
Alongside the lights, this years’ focal point will be the beautiful wooden Roundhouse; a cosy, heated, wooden structure – the perfect spot to enjoy our jam-packed roster of entertainment as well as some well-earned ‘Hygee’.
New for 2023, a carefully curated schedule of Festive Fringe entertainment, which included live music, comedy, cabaret, cinema screenings, workshops, and even a festive pop bingo!
The Aprés Ski Bar returned serving up delicious hot and cold drinks, mulled wine and wintery cocktails, alongside some of the South West’s top-notch food vendors.
All events were on a first come first served basis.

You may see our Environmental Services team cutting back hedges and shrubs in the next few months, as part of their duties.
Hedge and shrub maintenance ordinarily takes place between 1st August and 28th February, in line with the bird nesting season. Hedges and shrubs are generally cut once annually during the Autumn/Winter maintenance programme, in accordance with the character of the area and to ensure the safe use of the town’s roads, pavements, parks, open spaces and residential properties.
Hedges are one of the most common issues reported to us. If you have a concern about a hedge or shrub that requires maintenance, please use our Report It system to inform us and we will ascertain ownership and take action where required - bit.ly/ReportIt_
