Climate and Biodiversity

Chippenham Town Council is committed to becoming a net carbon zero organisation by 2030. We aim to reduce our environmental impacts, move to a more circular economy and to manage our land to help increase biodiversity. We want to work with our residents to help them reduce their emissions and ecological impacts too.

We have been measuring and reporting on the carbon footprint of our activities since 2019 as part of our Climate Strategy. Our latest appraisal for the year 2024 – 2025 shows we have reduced our market-based carbon footprint by 28.7% compared to our baseline year.

Since 2019 we have replaced the liquid petroleum gas supplies at Stanley Park with a heat pump and solar panels, switched our energy suppliers to renewable energy, invested in more efficient electrical heating and lighting, insulated lofts, added pipe lagging, and started our transition to electric vehicles and HVO fuel. All of these actions have contributed to this significant reduction in our carbon footprint.

We will continue to explore ways that we can reduce more emissions in the future to achieve our commitment to be net carbon zero as an organisation by 2030.
