All Chippenham Town Council venues will be open as usual tomorrow including Chippenham Museum, Neeld Community & Arts Centre and Stanley Park Sports Ground. Thank you for your patience and understanding over the past two days.

Councillor Desna Allen, Leader of the Town Council has issued the following statement:

Dear Residents, businesses and partner organisations,

It has certainly been a challenging few days for the local community in Chippenham following the effects of Storm Bert over the weekend. The River Avon burst in banks on Sunday evening and caused flooding in the town centre to an extent we have not seen in the town since 1968.
Today, the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State (Minister for Water and Flooding) Emma Hardy visited Chippenham, along with the MP for Chippenham, Sarah Gibson, to see the impact of the flooding and how the town is managing the clean-up and repair works. My thanks go to both for their time today, their help and advice they have offered local businesses and residents.
I would also like to pay tribute to the Chippenham Town Council staff for their work over the last 24 hours to help return the town to normality, and for the work that will need to be done in the weeks ahead, in areas such as Monkton Park.
Chippenham has a wonderful community which is at its best when working collaboratively, and this has been demonstrated by partnership working with a range of agencies including Wiltshire Council, The Environment Agency, Wiltshire Police, Dorset & Wiltshire Fire Service to manage the crisis situation and enable the town to function again.
My thanks also go to the surrounding town councils who have offered support and mutual aid, which is much appreciated.
Our thoughts are with residents and business owners who are now facing the clean-up which is a frustrating and worrying time.

As the Town Centre continues to be flooded, and travel routes are disrupted, all Town Council venues will remain closed tomorrow this includes the Town Hall, Chippenham Museum, Neeld Community & Arts Centre and Stanley Park SG. Our thanks go to all emergency services who have worked so hard today to keep everyone safe and also to partner organisations such as Wiltshire Council and the Environment Agency who we shall continue to work closely with in the coming days.

10am 25.11.24

Storm Bert has caused the River Avon to burst its banks in Chippenham Town Centre making access to the High Street impossible this morning. Flooding on arterial routes into the town has caused severe traffic delays this morning too.

The Town Hall, Chippenham Museum, Neeld Community & Arts Centre and Stanley Park Sports Ground will be closed today for the safety of staff and visitors.
