Chippenham Town Council launch Festival of Christmas
Throughout December there is a whole range of events happening as part of our Festival of Christmas. There will be a Gingerbread Window Trail, across the town centre, starting on Sunday 28 November until Wednesday 8 December. You will be encouraged to seek out a variety of Gingerbread characters displayed within windows of local businesses across the town. Trail cards will be available to collect from the Town Hall and Chippenham Museum and should be returned to the same locations by 4pm on Wednesday 8 December. There are three voucher prize bundles to be won.
We are running a spectacular Enchanted Light Trail where you will see the trees and riverbank illuminated as never seen before, including a Floating Iceberg Pontoon, Enchanted Talking Trees and Northern Lights Dome. A variety of food vendors including pizza, cakes and festive drinks will be dotted around the Trail.
The trail is free and accessible for all. Running from Friday 3 December until Thursday 9 December between 4:30pm – 9:30pm on the Island in Monkton Park, starting just as you walk over the Town Bridge.
The Neeld Community & Arts Centre and Chippenham Museum are involved with a wide range of shows, events, and activities:
Thursday 2 December: Chippenham Museum Late opening with a Christmas Twist
Friday 3 December: The Neil Diamond Story
Join Bob Drury with all the favourites such as Cracklin’ Rosie, America, Love on the Rocks, Play Me, Hello Again, Forever in Blue Jeans, Beautiful Noise, I’m a Believer, Red Red Wine and of course Sweet Caroline.
Sunday 5 December: Community Christmas Sunday
11am – 3pm
Come and meet 40 local community groups and charities at the Neeld and Town Hall at this FREE event and find out about the wonderful work they do. The day will also feature performances from local choir Allsorts.
Wednesday 8 December: Festive Afternoon Tea at the Neeld
With some light entertainment from the wonderful and sparkly Steve West, includes a free raffle. In partnership with Wiltshire Wellbeing for the over 60’s
Sunday 12 December: Everly Brothers and Friends at Christmas
Taking you on a walk back down memory lane with all the classic songs that you remember, Cathy’s Clown, Walk Right Back, Ebony Eyes, Bird Dog, Dream, Let It Be Me, Love Hurts, Wake Up Little Suzie, When Will I Be Loved plus many more. Also, sing and clap along to some of your favourite Christmas tunes.
Friday 17 December: Santa’s Groove
Have your elf a merry little Christmas! Dress up (if you would like to) in your favourite festive outfit and groove the night away at our disco to some of your favourite Christmas tunes, featuring Will Blake and his live band.
Saturday 18 December: The Rosellys Christmas Show (Yelde Hall)
Calling all fans of original Country and American Folk – the Rosellys are set to make their first appearance in Chippenham, at the town’s historic Yelde Hall.
Sunday 19 December: Santa’s Best Ever Christmas
The show where every child receives a present from Santa!

Chippenham Town Council were delighted to announce the launch of “Festival of Christmas,” a series of events celebrating all things festive which began on Sunday 28 November and will run until Sunday 19 December.
The festive filled day on Sunday 28 November was full of free entertainment between 10am – 7pm across the town centre, to bring the community together safely to enjoy a range of activities and enjoy the Christmas lights, which included:
• Meet Santa at the Yelde Hall,
• Lantern Making Workshops and Glitter-Glo Face Painting at the Town Hall
• Fire Performers in the Market Place
• Festive Stilt-walkers on the High Street
• Snow Globe Photo Experience
In addition to the events above, the High Street hosted a festive Artisan Market between 10am-7pm. There were over 30 stalls to visit and enjoy across the day including artisan cider, mulled wine, and roasted chestnuts as well as, handmade gifts, and baked goods.
Community Performers featured in Market Place, Borough Parade and Emergy Gate. A variety of local acts performed including, Chippenham’s Dancing Academy, Ministry of Samba, Rock Choir: Trowbridge, Frome, Warminster/Westbury and Chippenham, CLOG’s Musical Theatre.
Mayor of Chippenham, Councillor John Scragg said, “We are delighted to host Festival of Christmas for 2021 and look forward to bringing the residents and the wider community together safely on this festive occasion and throughout December with our various events across the town.”
The Christmas lights twinkled from 5pm on Sunday 28 November and will be switched on from 3:30pm onwards across the festive season, however, to reduce the risk of mass gathering there wasn’t an official countdown, or switch on this year.
