This collaborative project was initially proposed by Councillor Nick Murry representing Zero Chippenham. The funding for the project and the trees have been provided by The Woodland Trust under their MOREwood scheme.
A planting plan was produced in partnership with the Town Council, The Woodland Trust, Wiltshire Wildlife Trust, and Zero Chippenham.
Approximately 800 trees of native species were planted by local volunteers organised by Zero Chippenham. The trees were bare root saplings, around 1 metre tall planted in 4 areas of rough-cut grass in Stanley Park which are currently not used for recreation. The rough-cut grass currently offers very little in terms of biodiversity or carbon capture. Replacing with trees will improve both these elements and require less maintenance than grass.
Thank you and well done to all involved in the wonderful project.
