SUMMARY:The Power of the Particular: Brief Lives Creative Writing Workshops
DESCRIPTION:Join the Chippenham Museum Creative Writing Group for a series of linked workshops celebrating the 400th anniversary of the birth of local antiquarian and famous biographer\, John Aubrey. The workshops will be led by Lesley Taylor\, an experienced facilitator\, and will draw inspiration from Aubrey’s work and the museum’s summer exhibition. \nBorn in Kington St Michael in 1626\, Aubrey was a biographer\, archaeologist\, scientist\, naturalist\, and oral historian. He valued the minutiae of everyday life\, and his writing is rich with specific (and often witty) details that bring the past to life. \nDrawing on his most well-known work\, Brief Lives – written portraits of key figures of his day – the workshops will explore how to write with greater detail. Sessions will provide an opportunity to develop the skill of telling your own stories with clarity\, experimenting with a range of forms including flash fiction\, memoir\, poetry\, and creative non-fiction. \nSuitable for beginners and experienced writers alike\, this series of monthly workshops will culminate in An Evening with Aubrey at the museum\, where participants’ work will be shared and celebrated. The date for this celebratory event is to be confirmed. \nEach session costs £5 per person. Spaces are limited\, so booking is essential. Please contact the museum to reserve your place.

It’s our Cherished Vehicle and Family Fun Day. \nThis is the fourteenth year and it just grows in size and popularity every year. There will have a large variety of attractions for all the family to enjoy with a fairground a performance arena\, a Food Village and Craft\, Charity\, Trade Stands and of course The Fun Dog Show. \nIn excess of 250 cherished vehicles are expected; all in their prime and with owners bubbling to answer your questions. Many owners clubs have now made this a regular meet so expect to see marques as diverse as MG\, Marcos\, Morgan and Muscle cars. And you may also find some of those wonderful 1950’s USA models. \n£8 for adults (dogs and kids go free). SUMMARY:Collection Conversations - Natasha Michaels & Carole Pearson
DESCRIPTION:In June’s installment\, we will be joined by Natasha Michaels and Carole Pearson. \nNatasha Michaels studied communication design at Saint Martin’s School of Art and at the Royal College of Art where she specialised in printmaking. Her work explores conventions in classical subjects from art history. Celebrating\, and at the same time\, subverting these images\, Michaels reimagines the sitters as fictional\, cartoon-like characters. Through the lens of celebrity and social media she explores historic and contemporary notions of power\, identity\, status and artifice. \nCarole Pearson worked with museum collections before studying at Bath Spa University\, first for a BA in ceramics\, followed by an MA in fine art. Pearson works mostly on paper but also makes three-dimensional objects. Her selection of materials is low-tech\, utilising found and everyday objects. Her thinking reflects her childhood growing up on North Yorkshire farms and her strong connection with the land. She looks for marks in the landscape\, focusing on the impressions and traces that objects have left behind.

The Coffee Connection is a free\, open access group that offers a chance to meet and chat with others in a similar situation in relaxed\, informal setting. We offer these at four locations across our 800sq mile patch\, including our most recent addition in Chippenham\, as well as online sessions via Zoom. \nTo learn more\, head to our website and search ‘Coffee Connection.’\nPlease note\, sessions do not take place on Bank Holidays.
