Chippenham Town Council elect a new Leader

Congratulations to Councillor Desna Allen who has been voted the new Leader of Chippenham Town Council at Full Council on 24 November 2021. Councillors voted for a new Leader of the Council due to Councillor Andy Phillips standing down from the role.

With 2 terms as Mayor of Chippenham and 3 years as Leader of the Council, Councillor Allen has extensive knowledge and experience of working and living in Chippenham and represents Sheldon Ward. Councillor Allen chairs the Community Safety Forum which brings together local businesses, organisations, charities and individuals to share information and support in making Chippenham a safe and vibrant town. As Leader of the Council, Councillor Allen will chair the Strategy and Resources Committee, and is already the Chair of the Human Resources Committee.

Councillor Desna Allen said of the new appointment “I am very pleased and honoured to have been nominated and voted for as Leader of the Council. I am keen to continue to work with my colleagues and officers to develop the new Corporate Strategic Plan which will set priorities for the Council moving forward and embrace the challenges we face with tackling the climate emergency. I remain fully supportive and champion the Community Safety Forum and will work to improve the quality of town life for residents and the local community.”
