Christmas shoppers are invited to meet local artists and makers featured in the shop at Chippenham Museum on Sunday 1st December, with special discounts on books and locally made gifts. The museum is opening especially for Museum Shop Sunday, a national event which celebrates the unique shopping opportunities available in museums and galleries.

Shoppers can enjoy 10% off items produced by the local makers taking part, with a different maker featured each hour 10am to 3pm. The programme begins with Chippenham based Barking Hen Jewellery (10am – 11am) who supplies the museum with a range of silver and copper pieces, including seasonal Robin designs. Corsham based Hazel & Blue (11am – 12pm) will be launching their Winter Spice Soy Candle Making Kits alongside a range of candles and reed diffusers.

Claire Selman, Visitor Services Officer at Chippenham Museum (above), said

“Meeting our makers gives shoppers the opportunity to discover the stories behind the ranges in our shop, making their gifts even more meaningful. With several offers available, Museum Shop Sunday will be a good opportunity to enjoy some savings whilst discovering gifts you might not find elsewhere.”

The event continues with Calne based illustrator Chris Dunn (12pm – 1pm), view his current drawing projects and learn about his watercolour illustrations for the Paisley Rabbit calendar and illustrated children’s book available in the shop. Learn about the art of wood turning with Chippenham based Ian Full (1pm – 2pm), who crafts pens and keyrings from locally sourced woods. The day concludes with Colerne watercolour artist Kate Davies (2pm – 3pm), who will be talking about her book illustration commissions and inspirations for her prints and cards featuring local scenes populated with animal characters.

There will also be 20% off the museum’s vast range of local books, with popular titles including ‘Chippenham Street Names’, ‘Town United’ and, new for December, ‘Chippenham in Old Photographs’.

The museum’s two floors of galleries will also be open and free to explore, including art exhibition “Strange & Wonderful Beings: The Work of Clifford & Rosemary Ellis”. Chippenham Museum is a Chippenham Town Council facility
