Tonight, Chippenham Town Council celebrated the outgoing Mayor, Councillor John Scragg and welcomed the new Mayor of Chippenham, Councillor Liz Alstom with the annual civic event, the Mayor’s Investiture.

Reverend Rod Key opened the ceremony welcoming invited guests and dignitaries.

Asked by the outgoing Mayor, Councillor Desna Allen, Leader of the Council presented her nomination for Councillor Liz Alstrom, and invited all Councillors to show their support with a show of hands.

Councillor Liz Alstrom read the Declaration of Acceptance of Office of Mayor and signed her signature in confirmation. Mayor of Chippenham, Councillor Liz Alstrom then invited Councillor John Scragg to make a speech on his year in office, and make his thank you presentations.

The Mayor invited Councillor Desna Allen to propose a vote of thanks to the outgoing Mayor, and Councillor John Scragg received some gifts of thanks.

The Mayor then made her inaugural speech, before presenting the nomination in support of Councillor Declan Basely to be the Deputy Mayor, presenting him with the Chain of Office and inviting him to make a speech.

After the ceremony, a group photo was taken in the Neeld to mark the occasion, before a light buffet and refreshments.
