Holocaust Memorial Day
Holocaust Memorial Day encourages remembrance in a world scarred by genocide. 27 January is the international day to remember the six million Jews who died during the Holocaust, alongside the millions of other people killed under Nazi persecution of other groups and in genocides that followed in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur.
27 January is used to mark Holocaust Memorial Day because it marks the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest Nazi death camp.
We have released a video of Mayor of Chippenham, who has marked the day, In the video, which you can watch HERE the Mayor lights a candle to remember all those people around the world who have been the victim of genocide. An electronic candle will remain lit at Customer Services at the Town Hall and it will stay lit for 24 hours.
