Wood Lane Car Park will be closed for the day to guarantee access for the procession participants to meet from 4pm. Judging by the Mayor of Chippenham, Councillor Desna Allen, and Manager at Chippenham Connected, Kathryn Crosweller, will take place in Wood Lane Car Park before the procession moves off.

Cllr Sandie Webb, Leader of Chippenham Town Council said;
“We are delighted to be able to offer these free parking spaces for such a popular community event in the town.”

During the day, Island Park’s landscape will be transformed and offer visitors lots of quirky space-themed live activity from 12noon, hosted by everyone’s favourite, Doc Brown.

With performances from local dance troupes and musicians on the main stage, children’s characters as well as children’s rides and family games, whilst the picnic zone is the perfect place to enjoy treats from food stalls. The return of the Anonymous Travelling Market will delight visitors with hand-crafted items, gifts and produce from trade and charity stalls across the county, as well as a sprinkling of local traders.

Official Host, Doc Brown will host a space-themed Fancy Dress Competition at 2pm at Island Park joined by the Mayor of Chippenham. Everything and anything space related is welcome – think space, fantasy, sci-fi and even music! The annual Carnival King, Queen, Prince and Princess will be crowned at 3pm with the support of Emery Gate Shopping Centre.

Other free action-packed activities planned include a space-climbing wall for those explorers in the crowd and space face painting, plus a space themed photo wall and space-craft activities for all the family to enjoy.

The float procession will take place at 7pm as last year, starting at Wood Lane Car Park, inviting the community to come together and celebrate 50 years since the moon landings.

Chippenham Connected Manager, Kathryn Crosweller, said, “We’re thrilled that our event partner Chippenham Town Council has been able to offer free parking once again to the town for this year’s event. It makes a huge difference for families to know they can park for as long as they want to make the most of the event, and for free is the icing on the cake!”

There are plenty of ways for the community to get involved with the town’s Carnival. Local children are able to take part in competitions including Carnival a “make your own recycled rocket” competition and a fancy dress competition during the day, and all members of the community are invited to take part in the Carnival procession. Entries are open for the procession until Wednesday 3rd July.
