Mayor’s Investiture

Each year a new Mayor is elected in May. The Mayor’s Investiture is an official ceremony where the incoming Mayor receives his/her Chains of Office and robes and officially becomes the Mayor of Chippenham.

The current Mayor of Chippenham for 2022/2023 is Councillor Liz Alstrom.

In more recent times we have adapted the Mayor’s Investiture to an online event due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but normally we invite Mayors from other towns and Town Councillors to witness the ceremony. The Mayor of Chippenham is also known as Chairman of Council and is officially selected at the Annual Council Meeting by their fellow Councillors.

The Mayor’s Investiture is also an opportunity for the outgoing Mayor of Chippenham to look back on their highlights, say thank you and present a cheque to their chosen charity for the year. It is also the first opportunity the incoming Mayor will have to highlight what they are looking forward to doing over the forthcoming year.
