Commonwealth Day

Commonwealth Flag flying at the Town Hall

Commonwealth Day is an annual celebration, held on the second Monday in March. It is an opportunity for people all over the Commonwealth in Africa, the Caribbean and Americas, the Pacific and Europe to promote the Commonwealth’s shared values of peace, democracy equality and to celebrate the association’s rich diversity.

To celebrate Commonwealth Day we raise the Commonwealth flag with a flag-raising ceremony where the most diverse British Army Regiment 9 Ref RLC do a march past the Town Hall. We invite local primary schools to the Town Hall to join in with the celebrations, whilst also using it as an opportunity to learn more about our commonwealth through an information trail from information stands placed around the Neeld Community & Arts Centre. To finish the celebrations 9 Reg RLC provide us with a showcase of their country of origin, this includes singing and dancing.
