21st June 2021 / News archive

Chippenham Town Council declare an Ecological Emergency at their Full Council meeting on 16 June 2021.

A Motion was raised by Councillors Myla Watts, Nick Murry and Declan Baseley requesting that Full Council consider agreeing to the declaration with a list of actions and commitments to be adopted. After a robust debate, the motion was supported with an amendment to instruct officers to produce a detailed action plan of how the suggested actions could be implemented including the feasibility, potential impact on the precept for 2022/2023 and Officer resources.

A further report will be discussed at Full Council in September 2021.

Leader of the Council, Councillor Andy Phillips said;

“I am delighted that Full Council agreed to declare an Ecological Emergency as it was the right decision to make.  I felt it correct to support the motion and the amendment to enable officers time to investigate the financial implications this will have on the Council’s budget setting and the precept paid by Chippenham residents in the future.”
