Chippenham Town Council Award Community Donations

Community Donation Sub – Committee meets four times a year to hear from applicants who wish to apply for a community donation. To be awarded a donation you application must help to support a vibrant Town Centre, a sustainable environment or neighbourhood. An organisation can also be awarded a donation if they work within the community sector and work on improving the quality of life for the residents of Chippenham.

Avon Needs Trees

Avon Needs Trees plan to buy land at Stanley, two miles east of Chippenham with the £3,856 awarded where they will create a new permanent forest with open spaces and natural regeneration. Avon Needs Trees also plans on planting 10,000 trees to help tackle the Climate Emergency, provide natural flood management, and boost local biodiversity. The donation will also contribute to volunteer days and other free access public events on-site to involve residents with planting a new forest and enjoying the natural environment.

Chippenham Rugby Football Club Minis Under 11 Squad

Chippenham Rugby Football Club Minis Under 11 Squad were awarded £1,804 and the donation will support 35 U11 Chippenham Rugby Football players to attend an end of season tour weekend. The end of season tour is vital to help build young people’s confidence and strengthen their skills after 18 months of disruption and difficulty for many.

Doorway

Doorway will use the £4,511 awarded to respond more quickly to the needs of their guests, offer them more services, and provide more targeted help to groups who we have found hard to reach, such as young people (16-25). The donation will also contribute to extended opening hours and to drop-in sessions including addiction support group, eye tests, haircuts and a cooking group. Doorway support the most vulnerable members of the community to acquire and stay in their own homes, and to manage their mental and physical health better, improves their lives and those of the whole community.

Kandu Arts Community Project

Kandu Arts Community project will provide an after-school club offering mentoring support, study and life skills advice, music and drama activities, CV writing, advocacy and creative arts workshops with the £4,475 donation.

Refashion My Town

Refashion My Town will be running regular workshops to teach young people to upcycle second-hand clothes and textiles, to refashion their own clothes to mend. The donation of £4,069 will allow the series of workshops to go ahead and provide subsided places for Sixth Form and College students.

Wiltshire Sight

There is estimated to be around 1600 people living with sight loss in Chippenham. The £1,948 will pay for 12 months of community hubs. The community hubs are an opportunity for people to drop in or make appointments to see their Community Sight Loss Advisor, try out equipment, or get support as needed alongside our regular peer support social groups.
