This Easter Chippenham Museum has released a musical tribute to their volunteers, visitors and the town’s key-workers with a special rendition of Rick Astley’s hit single ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’. Shared on the museum’s Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages, the video invites viewers to re-create their own favourite 1980s songs to share with the museum using #MuseumMusicMakers.

Head of Museum & Heritage Services, Melissa Barnett said “Our 1980s themed Goldiggers exhibition has been hugely popular with visitors and, while the museum is closed, we have been working on ways to continue celebrating the iconic music venue and capture as many memories as possible. We hope our video has spread a little joy to everyone staying home and to our key workers who we are so grateful to.”

Volunteer Peggy Burgess, one of 70 volunteers at the museum, commented “Thank you all for lifting our day, no wonder I enjoy our museum so much it’s a wonderful atmosphere.”

The museum has recently launched a virtual gallery on their website, allowing visitors to enjoy the Goldiggers exhibition from their own homes. A Goldiggers Memories website has also been created to view excerpts of the Goldiggers documentary produced by Wiltshire College and University Centre students which featured in the exhibition.

Melissa continued “We are currently aiming to open in mid-June, and will follow government advice nearer the time as to when it will be safe to start welcoming visitors again. In the meantime we are working on a number of projects and are launching new online learning resources for families to learn about the history of their town.”

Cllr Teresa Hutton, Chair of the ACL committee said of the online gallery, “Our museum is very creative and have responded brilliantly to us having to stay at home. By sharing the Goldiggers exhibition online means more people will be able to see it and join in the fun activities too.”
