Mayoral Engagements 2011/12 - Councillor David Powell

New Chippenham Mayor

On Wednesday 11 May Councillor David Powell was elected as the 28^th Town Mayor of Chippenham. 

David has lived all his life in and around the town and became a Councillor in 2003.  His career was in education and included a seventeen year period as Head Teacher at Sutton Benger Primary School, taking on the role at just 28 years of age.  This was followed by four years in the Wiltshire County Advisory Service.  He currently works part-time as an Education/Arts Office at Chippenham Borough Lands Charity.

He has been married to Gillian for 42 years and they have two daughters and four grand-children.  His interests include amateur theatre and both he and Gillian are founder members of CLOGs Musical Theatre.  They are also both very keen gardeners and David enjoys playing the piano.  Gillian will be David's Mayoress and accompany him on his many engagements throughout the year. 

David is passionate about the town and hopes to help raise the profile of Chippenham during his Mayoral year.  His nominated charity is the Rise Trust, a 'one-stop shop' offering support for children under twelve and their families.

The new Deputy Mayor is Councillor Andy Phillips.
