Walking and Cycling
There is no better way to enjoy the highways and byways of the
area than by pulling on your hiking boots or getting on your bike!
Chippenham and the surrounding areas have a wealth of footpaths and
byways catering for all interests and abilities. Follow the course
of the Wilts & Berks Canal from Chippenham to near the county
town of Trowbridge where you can join the Kennet and Avon Canal and
walk to London or Bristol! Trace Maud Heaths route into the town
via the Causeway named in her honour, walk around Lacock, Castle
Combe or Biddestone, three of the finest villages in England. The
Ridgeway, the Cotswold way and the Macmillan way are all near
Chippenham. The local Ramblers Association group organise a walking

Chippenham is situated on the Sustrans National Route 4, which
runs from London to St David's on the west coast of Wales. There
are a number of shorter routes around both the town and surrounding
areas that can be obtained for free from the Tourist Information
Centre. For the more serious cycler Chippenham and District
