Spotlight On: Sarah Purvey concludes our artist’s blog series

14th July 2020 / Museum, Museum blog

“The new art collection Chippenham Museum is building is an absolute joy and privilege to be a part of. The new collection celebrates the area of North Wiltshire and its rich art history. It highlights historical art and connections to the area including Bath Academy of Art and celebrates contemporary artists living and working in the area today.

The generosity of the artists involved in building the new collection has been astounding, all of the artists involved sharing the desire to create a public art collection in a free to visit museum which will be accessible and available to all. The collection is going to be a wonderful resource to schools, colleges and art lovers alike.

I’m incredibly proud of the project and of the wonderful accompanying catalogue put together so thoughtfully and beautifully by Alan Fuller. Huge thanks to Jo Baring for writing the foreword to the catalogue and to all the artists who have given of their time to support the museum. HUGE thanks to the wonderful staff at Chippenham Museum for their belief and support of the project and for putting up with me!

The second phase of artists are all primed and ready to take the collection forward next year, all equally inspired by the need to support our museums in order to support each other. Yes it’s a cracker of a collection.”

The museum wishes to thank Sarah Purvey for her ongoing help in realizing this project, without which it would not have been possible.

The other vlogs from the participating artists is available on our YouTube channel.

The museum will be reopening with our Spotlight On exhibition for you to view the new additions to our collection. A catalogue will also be available to buy in the museum shop. We will be announcing further details soon on social media.
