Review of our 2017

We hope you’ve had a good Christmas & New Year. As we all ease back into work. we’re taking a look at some of our 2017 highlights.

January was a quiet month but we announced our new Chief Executive Mark Smith. The Neeld Community and Arts Centre celebrated its 1st birthday in February with Michael Morpurgo’s King Arthur by Story Pocket Theatre.

In March we celebrated Commonwealth Day with 9 Regiment RLC, invited school children to the Town Hall and the Neeld to watch traditional dancing and taste food from the Commonwealth. Chippenham Museum launched all things maps and Stanley Park Sports Ground started a health programme #kickofftheweight.

The local elections took place in May with 11 new Councillors being elected. We welcomed a new Leader of the Council Sandie Webb and a new Chief Executive Mark Smith. The Mayor’s Investiture took place this month and we welcomed Cllr Mary Norton to the role.

In June we loved our beautiful hanging baskets in the Town Centre, new recycling bins in the High Street ready for the Soap Box Derby with Chippenham BID. The annual  Chippenham Games at Stanley Park saw nearly 500 school children take part in sporting activities led by inspirational sport leaders.

The hottest day of the year in July (it certainly felt like it) saw our Family Fun Day in John Coles Park. We took part in #LoveParks which was a Keep Britain Tidy campaign. We announced Forest Green Rovers Football Club were to train at Stanley Park Sports Ground. A fundraiser for SSAFA at the Neeld we welcomed the Band of the Scots Guards, it was a truly memorable event.

August saw the comeback of the Chippenham Carnival & the outdoor cinema series Watch it Wednesday both of these events were very popular and they will be back for 2018. We began renovation work on the War Memorial updating the gilded lettering, this work was kindly supported by Mander Duffill Accountants in Chippenham.

In September we held a public consultation on our Corporate Strategic Plan 2018-2022. On Civic Sunday awards were given to local groups and individuals who have contributed to Chippenham. Our buildings opened for Heritage Open Days and we raised the Red Ensign for Merchant Navy Day.

During October we came together with our strategic partners to discuss Purple Flag at a business breakfast and invited the inspiration Rev Les Isaac OBE to talk about the importance of partnership working. Thanks to the Acension Trust Chippenham Street Pastors  Chippenham BID and the team at Purple Flag.

In November we worked with The British Legion to honour Armistice Day and Remembrance Sunday, thanks to everyone who offered their support. Chippenham Museum opened their beautiful gallery thanks to a grant from Arts Council with the brilliant Creative Wiltshire exhibition. It was time to turn on the Christmas lights with Chippenham BID.

We had a little time to draw breath in December, we had two lovely shows at the Neeld with A Christmas Carol presented by Chapterhouse Theatre Company and Sleeping Beauty presented by Vienna Festival Ballet.

We now look forward to the opportunities 2018 brings!
