The annual celebration of the Purple Flag programme, which recognises excellence in the management of the evening and night-time economy (ENTE) in the UK and Ireland, took place this weekend (07-09 October 2016).
Towns and cities across the country held a wide-range of events to not only showcase the quality, diversity and vibrancy of their ENTEs, but also to challenge the common negative, stereotypical perceptions about the safety and quality of our town and city centres during the evening period.
Chippenham town centre glowed purple with special celebrations at the weekend. Chippenham Police, Town Hosts, Street Pastors and Town Council were all out in the town to discuss Chippenham at night.
The iconic railway viaduct and Town Hall were lit purple, The Bridge House, Wetherspoon’s had a purple day and night celebrations including a purple raffle and an afternoon of family fun with face painting, fancy dress and cake sale all in aid of Clic Sargent charity.
Chippenham Street Pastors were out and about on Saturday night and in addition to their stock of flip flops were handing out shimmering purple glow sticks!
Thank you to everyone that took part and made this such a great weekend and celebration of Chippenham at night.
