ARTeology is a project which is based on the work of Creative Wiltshire, a five year Heritage Lottery Funded project based at the Wiltshire and Swindon History Centre which allowed the county’s museums and archives to acquire new objects for their collections. ARTeology are a group of artists who have been responding to the objects acquired by Creative Wiltshire.

Project Officer Joy Bloomfield said “ARTeology is a reflection of the wonderful wealth of creativity in Wiltshire. It has been a pleasure to watch the artists develop their work to reach this point and it was wonderful to welcome so many to view the work at the Private View on Saturday.”

Chippenham Museum Curator Melissa Barnett said “The museum’s temporary exhibition gallery is a space for the local community to use and enjoy, as is the whole of the museum. This is the first time an external group has used the gallery since we transformed it a year ago with support from Arts Council England. We look forward to more projects like this in the future.”

After exhibiting at Chippenham Museum, ARTeology will then open in January at Town Hall Arts in Trowbridge. Additional to this, there will be an exhibition of a selection of the objects acquired for museums and archives as part of the Creative Wiltshire project at Salisbury Museum from January to April 2019, entitled ‘Creative Wiltshire: A Celebration of Art in Wiltshire’.

Chippenham Museum, a Chippenham Town Council facility, is free to visit and is open Monday to Saturday 10am to 4pm. For more details about the exhibition please call the museum on 01249 705020 or visit the museum’s website.
