The first Town Centre community Automated External Defibrillator (AED) has now been fitted.

The AED is located in a unit on the side of the Town Hall in Borough Parade. It will be kept in a durable locked cabinet accessed by calling 999 and quoting a unique location code displayed on the cabinet.

Although the Town Council has a number of Automated External Defibrillators (AED’s) in various locations such as the Town Hall, John Coles Park and London Road Cemetery, they are not accessible 24 hours a day when facilities are closed.

A defibrillator is a computerised medical device that delivers an electrical current through the chest which aims to shock the heart back into a normal rhythm allowing it to pump again. Rapid response using automated technology can significantly improve the quality of life of a survivor, as the longer the brain is starved of oxygen, the more damage can occur.
