Neighbourhood Plan for Chippenham

Chippenham Town Council have decided to pursue the development of a Neighbourhood Plan. This decision was agreed at Full Council committee meeting in December 2017.

Neighbourhood Planning enables communities to play a much stronger role in shaping the areas in which they live, work and play and in supporting new development proposals.
The first step in the process will be to develop an implementation timetable for the project and identify the Chippenham Neighbourhood Plan area. This will involve a comprehensive community consultation process which will include a wide range of topics. These will include housing and development needs for a growing town, infrastructure and transport links, heritage, culture and wellbeing.

Neighbourhood Plans are founded on the principles of localism, which means more involvement by communities, local people and local councils rather than central government.

Cllr. Sandie Webb, Leader of Chippenham Town Council said of the project;
“This is an important decision of the Council as Chippenham is destined to grow in the coming years. The Town Council is leading on this exciting project but we will be consulting with the local community who we hope will take ownership of what will be their Neighbourhood Plan.”
