Wardens
Have you ever considered volunteering?
Are you interested in your local history?
Do you have a few spare hours?
If the answer to any of these questions is yes, why not consider
becoming a volunteer warden at the Museum & Heritage Centre or
The Yelde Hall Historical Chamber.
All we ask is that you give three hours of your time once a
fortnight on a regular basis.
To find out more, please ask a member of staff or phone the
Chippenham Museum & Heritage Centre, 01249 705020, ask for the
Assistant curator or administrator who will be happy to give you
more details.
The Museum operates successfully because of the time and effort
our volunteer wardens give to it. At present we have 77 active
wardens who either come in to man the desk at the reception on a
two week rota or work behind the scenes doing various tasks
required and requested by the curatorial staff. and they man the
Historic Council Chamber at the Yelde Hall. This is very varied job
ranching from cataloguing accessions to translating historic deeds
and legal documents into modern English. Other tasks include
helping with research, cataloguing the vast photographic
collection, identifying to a greater detail objects and their
history i.e. medals.
At present the museum is working on producing booklets on local
sites/people of interest, which several wardens have taken a keen
interest in by doing the research and compiling the initial
booklet, one of the booklets being the Maud Heath Causeway.
All our volunteers do have to be interviewed and references
required before they can start their service to the museum, if a
volunteer is going to have contact with children other than
greeting them at reception then they are CRB checked, which the
Chippenham Town Council pays for. Please find a copy of our
volunteer warden leaflet attached.
