London Road Cemetary
London Road Cemetery was
opened in 1855 and covers 13 acres of land. On entering the gates,
to the right you will see the Chapel, which was built as part of
the main construction, enabling funeral services to be facilitated
on site and is still being used to this day, it has a seating
capacity of about 50 people.
The layout of the graves is in the format of a lawn cemetery,
memorials are placed back to back in straight rows, and this gives
consideration to the standard of care of the cemetery. The high
level of care is only made possible through the dedication and hard
work of the Council's grounds staff.
Within the cemetery
there are separate areas set aside for Church of England, Roman
Catholic and Non-conformist interments, but also there is an area
designated for the burial of ashes.

The well respected John Coles, a local pharmacist and who was
Mayor of Chippenham in 1891, 1898 and 1914; he died in 1916 and is
buried in the cemetery.
