Latest Community Donations announced

The Community Donations sub-committee meet three times a year to hear from applicants who are applying for a community donation. Applications must have objectives which support a vibrant Town Centre, a sustainable environment or neighbourhood and community benefits. They can also be in support of the voluntary and community sector working on improving the quality of life for residents of Chippenham.

 

At the June 2019 meeting the following donations were agreed:

Alabaré Christian Care (Unity House) awarded £1,305.50
Alabare Christian Care (Unity House) provides supported housing to individuals to enable them to live fulfilling lives. Unity House will continue to offer vital help to residents and the wider community with Dentaid offering dental check-ups, pain relief, and emergency care for up to 20 patients.

Chippenham Sailing & Canoeing Club awarded £2000
The Chippenham Sailing and Canoeing Club is staffed 100% by volunteers. Their aim is to provide water based activities and coaching in a safeguarded environment building personal values, confidence and skills for people of all ages and abilities. This donation will go towards the purchase of new equipment to encourage more people to use and enjoy the river.

Friends of Redland School awarded £1000
Friends of Redland School support Redland School by running fundraising events. This community donation will provide an additional space called the ‘Arctic Cabin’ which will facilitate the development of emotional wellbeing and support the growing mental health needs of the school population.

Olive Branch Counselling awarded £1,000
Olive Branch Counselling is a registered charity which provide a secure and confidential counselling service. Having moved to new premises they need help with equipment to set up the counselling rooms and office space.

Relate Wiltshire & Somerset awarded £938
Relate offers help to couples, families and individuals to have safe and happy relationships. The awarded donation will support a bursary programme for those in financial hardship in the Chippenham community.

Village Singers awarded £500
Village Singers is a local singing group who rehearse twice a week covering a wide range of musical material. They perform two programmes twice a year at various local venues and they also travel internationally, most recently to perform at Carnegie Hall. The Community donation will go towards room hire costs for rehearsal space.

A total of £6,743.50 was awarded at this meeting from a budget of £24,045

Councillor Richard Bambury, Chair of the Community Donations Sub-Committee said of the recent announcement;
“We are delighted to offer these community donations which will make a real positive change to the local community.”
