The Town Hall
Beginnings of the Town Hall
The Town Hall was built by Joseph Neeld in 1834 at a cost of approximately £12,000 and at a time when William IV was King of Great Britain and Ireland.
The Town Hall today
Today, the Town Hall is the nucleus of the Town Council, but also is an ideal venue to host a variety of corporate and community events. The Town Hall is located on the first floor of the building and benefits from a highly intimate atmosphere, decorated with ornate plasterwork, exquisite chandeliers and can comfortably seat up to 150 people.
Town Hall functions
The versatility of the hall allows for a variety of functions to be facilitated, from small committee meetings or seminars to weddings, christenings, birthday parties and large public meetings.
Our venues are covered by a premises licence and are licensed for Civil Ceremonies. Both halls have been adapted to give access to the disabled or infirm and the Town Hall has a loop system installed to aid the hard of hearing. Catering and bar facilities are provided for all functions and there is a well equipped kitchen, which can be hired for local community events.
