Think 19th-century scientific romances of Jules Verne, H. G. Wells and Mary Shelley, atomic locomotives, coal-powered flying boats, ornate submarines, and Victorian dialogue, and throw in Hayao Miyazaji’s Castle in the Sky and the 2003 The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, then add an image of Jonny Depp as the Mad Hatter in Tim Burton’s 2016 Alice Through The Looking Glass and you’ll have a fairly accurate picture of the weird and wonderful elements that make up the increasingly popular genre that is Steampunk.
Part of the week’s Steampunk Festival taking place throughout the town centre, the Saturday night Steampunk Cabaret Show at the Neeld Community and Arts Centre will be headlined by The Captain Of The Lost Waves, and feature Ichabod Steam, Greg Chapman and The Wattingers.
