Sherston Boules Day
17/07/2010
Sherston, the picturesque village in North Wiltshire,
has been linked with the game of Boules since 1986. On the
17th July 2010, the 25th Sherston Boules Day
will celebrate a tournament that has become the longest-lasting and
the biggest one-day boules event in the UK.
The draw will be made in early May for the 128 teams
that travel to the village from several counties and from across
the Channel. The French have an excellent track record at
Sherston's annual tournament and last year's winners, from
Malmesbury's twin, Gien in the Loiret, will return to defend the
title. Village and local sides will be equally determined to
reclaim the Sherston Cup during this special anniversary
year.
Day-long live music, entertainments, craft and market
stalls, children's activities and a range of food and drink at
pavement bars and cafes will offer a relaxing contrast to often
hard-fought matches. This is a day out that the whole family
can enjoy as participant or spectator.
