Battle of Britain Air Show 2010

19/09/2010

Cotswold Airport, Kemble, is delighted to launch the 2010 annual Battle of Britain Air Show on Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th September.

Seventy years ago the Battle of Britain was raging in the air across southern England and courageous young men, some still in their teens, were taking the latest high performance Spitfire and Hurricane fighters into combat against an enemy air force that had vastly superior numbers of aircraft. This event will commemorate one of the greatest air battles ever fought, and pay tribute to the brave young men and women that fought so gallantly for our freedom in the summer of 1940.

Special guests for the flying display, and appearing on both days, will be the Royal Air Force Lancaster, Spitfire and Hurricane from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight based at RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire. 15th September is nationally recognised as Battle of Britain Day and so this show is the culmination of a week where the heroes from 1940 will be remembered across the country and what better way than to see the Memorial flight take to the skies over this historic wartime aerodrome that did so much to support the battle.

In addition to the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight the short afternoon flying display will include vintage jets like the Jet Provost and Vampire trainers, a Russian built Antonov AN2 (which is the world's biggest single engined bi-plane) and many other aircraft specifically invited to attend.

In true Kemble style there will be lots of other things to see and do including Military Vehicles, Classic Cars, Historic Re-Enactors, Trade stands, a display of up to 50 static Vintage Aeroplanes will be flying in and Cirencester Model Aircraft club will be showing off a selection of their models and we will have a small model flying display each day.

Pleasure flights will be available throughout each day in a vintage De Havilland Dove and Percival Prentice aircraft courtesy of the "Classic Flight Club" from Air Atlantique. Locally based companies will also be offering pleasure flights and trial lessons in helicopters, microlights and light aircraft.

Kemble continues to support resident charity fly2help and the RAF Benevolent Fund over the weekend of the show. Both charities will be present and fly2help, along with their mascot "Douglas the Bear", will be specifically involved in some specially arranged activities and unique aviation opportunities that visitors to the show will be able to get involved with.

The 2009 show was the first year that we changed from an Open Day to make a specific celebration of the Battle of Britain which was met with a great response. There will be the a huge range of things for all the family to do from static aircraft to Military Vehicles, Classic Cars, Historic Re-Enactors and trade stands. Click the 'Show' button for full details of what is on during the day.

We are also pleased to announce that we have held the ticket prices from 2009 so book now to take advantage of great advance prices. We look forward to welcoming you back to the Cotswold Airport for the 3rd great Air Show here of the year!
