Chippenham Town Council are following and responding to the latest guidance on from Government announced on 16 March and we are taking the following measures to safeguard our staff and visitors.

We are still operating, many staff are working remotely and some are continuing to work on site such as the Environmental Services team, strictly following Government guidance.

Customer Services Town Hall
Customer Services are now open as usual from Friday 17 July. The public access toilets will remain closed.

Town Hall, Yelde Hall and Neeld Community & Arts Centre
All of these venues are closed with immediate effect until further notice.
If you have bought a ticket to an event or show in this period, we will be in touch to offer you a refund where relevant, we would welcome your patience during this time. We are working hard to arrange alternative dates for events where possible. All external hire events have been cancelled/rescheduled during this time.

Chippenham Museum
Chippenham Museum will be trialing a national online booking system for two weeks to establish how viable it will be to open to the public safely in accordance with the new guidance.
If the trial goes well, Chippenham Museum will open to the public in early August with a new exhibition called Spotlight showcasing new donations of contemporary art to the collection.

Stanley Park Sports Ground
We are very pleased to announce Stanley Park Sports Ground is opening from Monday 27 July.

There will be a phased approach to opening, please see the details below:

From Monday 27 July – Friday 31 July
Training sessions only on the 3G

From Saturday 1 August – Sunday 30 August
Monday – Friday: Training sessions only on the 3G
Saturday – Sunday: Friendly Fixtures only on the 3G

From Tuesday 1 September:
Monday – Sunday the 3G is available for training and fixtures.
Grass pitches will be open

Condition of hire and before arriving at Stanley Park Sports Ground
Hire of the facility will be by booking only, please email .
The preferable method of payment would be by card over the phone when booking or by card on the day. Cash will be taken if necessary.

You will need to supply us with your COVID-19 risk assessment prior to your arrival at Stanley Park Sports Ground.
This will need to detail not only your own control measures whilst at Stanley Park but control measures detailing how you intend to mitigate risk to all users as well as the staff at Stanley Park Sports Ground.

All hirers will need to establish a method of recording ALL attendees at their session and storing information for a minimum of 21 days (to support NHS Track and Trace)

The Function Room and indoor facility can only be hired by advance booking.

Turn up and Play
During July and August there will be no Turn Up and Play sessions

Changing Facilities
Currently, there are no changing facilities available

All users and hirers must read and adhere to the Coronavirus Covid-19 Guidance for Coaches and Users of Stanley Park Sports Ground.
This will be issued at the time of booking and can be read HERE



Full Council and Committee meetings
Following the success of the first pilot virtual meeting of the Neighbourhood Plan Steering Group meeting and the first virtual public Annual Council Meeting, standing and sub-committee meetings will be resumed virtually using the platform Zoom.
Some extraordinary meetings will be held in July and August, then we will continue with the previously agreed calendar of meetings.
Up until the first meeting of each committee or sub-committee takes place, urgent decisions will continue to take place under delegation by the Chief Executive.

Outdoor Play Areas
All of our 13 outdoor play areas are now open for the public to access.

Multi Use Games Areas
All of our Multi Use Games Areas (MUGAs) at John Coles Park, Pewsham Park, Little Battens and Monkton Park opened on Monday 29 June to enable football and basketball to take place. We have removed the two seating areas in John Coles Park to prevent groups gathering.

Tennis courts

From 1 August, Tennis Courts usage will return to normal.
Please take note of the rules below:

  • Courts 1 and 2 are for the use of Chippenham Park Tennis Club
  • Court 3 is for the use of members of the public
  • When the courts are not in use by either the Chippenham Park Tennis Club or the public then anyone can have access
  • Court users should give a club member priority when they wish to use either court 1 or 2 or a member of the public when they wish to use court 3
  • Concessionary users* have free court use of up to 1 hour
  • Members of the Tennis Club must be in possession of a valid membership card

*senior citizens, school children, unemployed, full time students and single parents

Car park and public toilets
Both are open.

Refreshments Kiosk
This is open for a take away service only. For everyone’s safety, please ensure you follow the social distancing guidelines at all times.

Bowls Club
Waiting for further clarification from Bowls England.

The SplashPad in John Coles Park will not be opening this season as the water is not chlorinated.


Friday & Saturday Market
Our Friday and Saturday Charter Market is open 8am – 4pm

We ask all visitors to the market to be responsible in following social  distancing guidelines giving a 2 metre space where possible between yourself and others.

There is a temporary road closure in place for the High Street every Friday morning between 6am-9.30am to enable safe social distancing.


London Road Cemetery
The cemetery remains open until we receive further guidance that it should close.


Environmental Services
Litter collection, street cleansing, grass cutting and grounds maintenance  continues as usual.
