Bandstand Marathon

Chippenham Town Council is supporting this year's Bandstand
Marathon on Sunday 25th September as part of the
Cultural Olympiad which is designed to give everyone in the UK a
chance to be part of London 2012 and inspire creativity across all
forms of culture, especially among young people.
Chippenham Town Band will play at 3:00pm on Sunday
25th September at John Coles Park as the 'curtain comes
down' on what has been another successful and well received summer
season of band concerts. The concert is also being played to
celebrate the Bandstand Marathon which was a part of the launch of
the Cultural Olympiad in 2008. In the first year there were 50
Bandstand Marathons in the South West and since 2009 the event has
grown nationwide.
The Bandstand Marathon is organised by SUPERACT a Community
Interest Company based in Somerset with the remit of offering good
quality music to local communities throughout the UK.
The Bandstand Marathon has been recognised by the London
Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games by
the award of Inspire Mark, the official branding of the Cultural
Olympiad.
This year the Bandstand Marathon is hoping to have an estimated
150 venues taking part providing performances for over 3,000
musicians across the UK.
Seb Coe, Chair of the London Organising Committee of the Olympic
Games and Paralympic Games said "Bandstand Marathon is
encouraging local music groups to fulfil their potential. I am
proud that with the help of partners such as SUPERACT we are
delivering our vision to use the power of the Olympic Games and
Paralympic Games to boost participation in creating a cultural
legacy post-London 2012".

Bandstand Marathon as venues the length and breadth of the UK open
up to celebrate the Cultural Olympiad. What a better way than with
our own Chippenham Town Band playing in our much loved John Coles
Park".
