Chippenham organisations benefit from Community Donations from Chippenham Town Council

The aim of the Town Council’s Community Donations Scheme is to provide financial support to organisations who work to improve the quality of life in Chippenham by supporting the Town Council’s objectives:
• To provide facilities and services which support and develop a well-connected town, which promotes health and well being
• To play an active role in the future development of Chippenham through collaboration with partners and stakeholders
• To maintain and enhance opportunities to create a green, clean and safe environment
• To promote Chippenham as a destination Market Town based on our rich heritage, history and culture
• To ensure effective and efficient use of resources


We are pleased to announce the following successful applications:

The Beacon Centre informed the committee how their venue is used every day by a broad variety of community and charity groups. The current equipment and furniture needs replacing to enable these groups to use the space safely and effectively.
The Beacon Centre awarded £500.

Chippenham BID about the importance of having a good and up to date source of communication between shops, restaurants, clubs etc in the town especially to support the night time economy. New radios will enable reliable and clear communication between venues to support a safe, clean and informed environment for people in the town centre.
Chippenham BID awarded £750.

Members heard from the President of Chippenham Rugby Football Club who informed the committee of their requirement for the donation which will support their ongoing fundraising work for the vital improvements needed to bring the club house up to date.
Chippenham RFC awarded £1,500.

Chippenham Twinning Association committee told the committee about the up and coming visit from families from the twinned town of Friedberg and the fundraising of the Twinning Association to enable receiving their host families.
Chippenham Twinning Association awarded £800.

Members heard from the director of CPM Sounds (Riverbank Studios) about the newly set up Jukebox Café, a weekly session for young people developed in partnership with the Rise Trust. Monies would be spent on advertising the café effectively to a wider audience. Participants will be encouraged to perform at the Café with the support of the new Summer Song writing sessions.

Members heard from a representative from the Friends of Monkton Park School (FoMS) about the outdoor classroom project which the school would like to complete this year to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the school. They have to date, secured in the region of £18,000 through various grants and fundraising events. As the committee had awarded £650 to the school towards benches for their outdoor classroom area in February 2018, it was agreed to support the Friends of Monkton Park School with a further award of £1,000.

Phoenix Amateur Dance Group told the committee of the success of the group’s first show and how they have booked the Neeld for 2019. Members were encouraged by an affordable dance group and how well it is doing.
Phoenix Amateur Dance Group awarded £962.25 as an internal transfer to pay the balance of the hire of the Neeld.

A total of £6,309.25 was awarded at this meeting from a budget of £20,000.

Cllr Richard Bambury, Chair of the Community Donations sub-committee said;
“I was delighted to Chair my first Community Donations sub-committee meeting and hear about all of the exciting projects which are happening in Chippenham. It’s important to note that all of the projects have a wider audience reach than the awarded organisation which means many local people will benefit from these developments.”


The Community Donations sub-committee meet three times a year to hear from applicants who are applying for a community donation. If you would like to make an application for a community donation, please read the new policy which explains the criteria, and application process. The date of the next meeting will be Thursday 18th October 2018, but applications must be submitted 3 weeks prior to the meeting 27 September.
