Dance, culture and food, come and celebrate Commonwealth Day
Commonwealth Day, held on the second Monday in March each year, is an opportunity for individuals, communities and organisations to promote the Commonwealth’s shared values of peace, democracy and equality, and to celebrate the association’s rich diversity. The day will be marked across the globe by a range of activities, including a multi-faith service at Westminster Abbey in London.
Chippenham is marking the event again this year with 9 Regiment RLC based at Buckley Barracks to present a cultural festival spreading across the Town Hall, Chippenham Museum, Customer Services Foyer and the Neeld Community and Arts Centre. Representatives from Fiji, the Caribbean, India, Africa and Nepal will showcase their cultures and traditions through food, costumes, music and dance which is free and open to the public from 2.30pm.
More than 450 school pupils from the area’s schools and 67 Residents and carers from local residential care homes came to join in the celebrations which included music, dance, performance and tasting of food from across the Commonwealth countries.
We would like to thank everyone involved for making this a great event and we look forward to next year.
