Fantastic news for the night time economy in Chippenham: Chippenham retains Purple Flag status
Chippenham Town Council is delighted to announce that Chippenham has retained its Purple Flag status.
This fantastic news for Chippenham is evidence of the effective collaborative working between Chippenham Town Council and a range of partners in the town including the local businesses and organisations who operate in the night time economy, the Chippenham Street Pastors, Chippenham BID, Wiltshire Police, Pub Watch and Wiltshire Council.
The benefits of having Purple Flag status include:
• A raised national profile and reassurance of a safe location in the night time economy
• A wider patronage with increased expenditure
• Lower crime and anti-social behaviour
• A more successful mixed use economy in the longer term
• A demonstrable infrastructure which supports businesses and the community
Cllr Peter Hutton, Chippenham Town Council said of this news;
“We are delighted to retain our Purple Flag status in Chippenham, it is important to support the night time economy in the town whilst reassuring people we have an effective infrastructure to maintain a safe and clean town centre.”

Chippenham Town Council is hosting a business breakfast to increase awareness of the Purple Flag activities and celebrate being the smallest town in the UK to attain this tremendous achievement. Join us for a tasty breakfast and hear from an inspirational guest speaker, Rita King, Local Partnerships Director from the Portman Group. The Portman Group support alcohol producers in areas such as responsible marketing and social responsibility and highlight good practice to the evening and night time economy.
