We are delighted to announce that the resurfacing works programmed along the High Street will commence on Monday 11 May 2020 and will be completed by Friday 15 May 2020.

Chippenham Town Council has been working in partnership with Wiltshire Council to encourage these works to be completed after Wessex Water had finished their essential work to the sewer system in the High Street in March 2020.

The resurfacing will take place during night between 7pm and 6am to enable the works to be completed with as little disruption and interaction with the public as possible due to the current social distancing guidelines.

Councillor Sandie Webb, Leader and Mark Smith, Chief Executive, said;

“It is great news that the High Street is to be resurfaced. This reflects the close working of Town Council with our Wiltshire Council colleagues and will be at a time when the importance of ensuring a pleasant and safe environment for both pedestrians and traders in the town is of paramount importance.”

The works will be carried out within a temporary road closure to ensure health and safety is maintained for the contractor and local residents.

The main diversion route for all ‘through’ traffic whilst the works are being undertaken will be via West on Bath Road, south on A4 Avenue La Fleche, east on Gladstone Road, east on Timber Street, north on Lords Lane, north on the Market Place and vice versa.

Pedestrian access will be maintained for the duration of the works; but the working area will be fenced off to ensure social distancing between the workforce and the general public. Vehicular access will not be permitted through the site during the working period.
