Celebrate Chippenham’s places and stories both past and present with a host of free events during Heritage Open Days from Saturday 8 to Saturday 15 September. The programme, organised by Chippenham Museum, includes a number of free tours and the opportunity to discover some of Chippenham’s most celebrated and intriguing buildings including St Andrew’s Church’s Bell Tower, the former Nestlé factory and Siemens’ Rail Automation offices.

Cllr Teresa Hutton, Chair of the Amenities, Culture and Leisure committee at Chippenham Town Council said of the event; “Heritage Open Days is a brilliant annual national event which encourages people to visit sites of historical and cultural importance. Our museum takes part each year with a programme of wonderful activities to take part in.”
Chippenham Museum Curator Melissa Barnett said “There really is something for everyone with an exciting line-up of sites opening their doors. Activities such as our ‘Shops from Chippenham’s Past’ trail would be great fun for families, local residents and visitors to the town.”
This year, in recognition of the centenary of the Universal Suffrage Act, exhibition ‘The Women Who Made Me’ will celebrate the contribution women connected to Chippenham have made to the town. The exhibition, curated by historian Lucy Whitfield, will be open in the Yelde Hall 10.30am to 3.30pm from Thursday 13 to Saturday 15 September.

The event is a celebration of the wonderful organisations and volunteers committed to support heritage in our town.”
Heritage Open Days is England’s largest festival of history and culture, bringing together over 2,500 organisations, 5,000 events and 40,000 volunteers. Every year sites across the country throw open their doors to celebrate their heritage, community and history.
